I am many things including an educator with over 20 years of experience. I am also an avid fiber artist, and all around maker that likes to tinker with things! I have had many experience over the years with a diveristy of experiences. I am also a social thinker and periodically write my observations.
My teaching centers on the concepts of liberating education; education is a path to freedom from oppression. I have worked with students from middle school striaght through to graduate school. At times I lead after school programs or teach graduate courses. Currently I work full time at an independent high school for female identified students. I teach courses on computer programming, machine learning, robotics, engineering. In the past I have taught courses in education, biology, biotech, alegbra, and physics.
My reaserch background is in the population genetics and historicakl biogeography of small mammals in North and South America. In recent years, my interests have migrated to understanding STEM education and how practices include and exclude students from different populations. My tech interests are in robotics and computer programming. I have been developing a curriculum to teach high school students Artificial Intellengence, Machine Learning, and ethics
I am devloping a program for teachers and schools to understand the utilization of design thinking and data to drive the development of programs that support learning for all students, especially for student from popuations traditionally excluded from STEM disciplines.
